Molly's Brief- Story Walls
For Molly's one day project brief we were tasked with creating a story on 4-6 panels/sides of a cube. We were also encouraged to do so using the medium of collage. The narrative could be simple or complex, looping or linear.
At first I set about planning my potential narrative. To do so I thumbnailed ideas that I could develop and selected the strongest.
I think the final outcome of my story box is pretty strong. I like the way I have used a variety of materials and taken into consideration their texture for certain areas to bring it to life. I have not really engaged with the medium of collage before and so this was a really insightful exercise. I think its readable as well which is really important.
There are things that I would do differently if I was to re-create this piece however; for example, I feel that the really scruffy construction of the actual box takes away some of the readability of this story. I also think that if I had more time, adding more detail and layering up the different mediums even more would have created more depth, I was definitely rushing towards the end of the day trying to get my box complete and I lost some of the quality because of that.
Overall, a readable looping story and some good use of materials, collage is something I never would have considered using for a final piece but now I really see the appeal of the medium and want to take it a little further in the future to see just what I can do with more time with the materials.
