Playing cards
Before the main task we had a quick ideas generation task where we used shapes to inform character design, here's what I came up with.
In this session we were tasked with creating playing cards using our historical characters!
David requested that we keep to the traditional format of a playing card.
This is my initial design which I then traced and flipped ready to be photocopied.
Throughout the process I had to trace a few times to check that the design was going to line up, and it didn't quite so I corrected the bits that didn't match on the photocopy version.
This is my final design for the playing card. I'm fairly pleased with how it ended up. I think it definitely fits the brief that we were given. I do however, wish that I had used a different medium to colour it, because all I used was standard felt tips and it doesn't have a nice effect in my opinion, and it doesn't leave much room to go back in and add shading if required; so the final piece looks quite flat and a bit boring.
This was a very helpful exercise because I had yet to really start exploring my character design for this project, and now I have begun to think about it a lot more and I am ready to create some different designs to develop.
